I wrote a book!
Over the past few years, I’ve been trying to create a simpler life for myself, finding a way to focus on what’s important and to cut out many of the distractions of modern society.
I spent much of my 20s spending money I really didn’t have on things that I thought would make me happy. Spoiler: they didn't make me happy!
The past decade has been challenging for everyone. And I had to take a long hard look at my life and decide what was truly fulfilling, and what was simply getting in the way of being the best person I can be.
I’ve found that minimalism, as an approach to life, helps me figure out what I really want and need. I can tune out a lot of the psychological clutter associated with accumulating ‘stuff’, and the pressure generated by society to consume. And I can focus on the things in my life that I actually can control.
Minimalism sometimes comes in for a bad rap: it came to be associated with an unforgiving aesthetic, a certain lack of joy.
But writers like Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus of The Minimalists, Joshua Becker of Becoming Minimalist and Leo Babauta of Zen Habits have been pioneers in showing the benefits of adopting a minimalist lifestyle.
And I hope that Simplify Your Life (published by Hay House UK) highlights the potential for uncovering joy in your own life by getting rid of the clutter that we can so easily be tempted to buy into.
It discusses how you can apply the principles of minimalism to your home, your work life, your finances, your health and your online life.
It goes on sale from February 25, 2020, and I really hope that you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
